What to do when moved to Munich?
As per the German Law, if you entered in Germany with intended stay of more than 90 days, then you must follow below process:
1. Civil Registration "Meldebescheinigung":
This is the first and most important process after entering to Germany, and should be done within 2 weeks. This is a civil registration, by which city administration will be informed regarding your personal details, date of arrival and the current address. For this you have to visit with appointment to your local Community office (Bürgerbüro) or you can visit to Central Administration office, check the Location. - Registration Form
- Confirmation of Accommodation (filled by landlord/Hotel)
- Original Passport
2. Tax Identification Number:
In German, it is called Identifikationsnummer or Steueridentifikationsnummer or Steuer-ID. Now as per new regulation, all 3 names merged to one term as Persönliche Identificationsnummer. It is an 11 digit number, after Civil Registration you will receive a letter in 2 weeks, which will look like below snapshot and it will have your Tax Identification Number (Persönliche Identificationsnummer).
This document is necessary for your employer to prepare your payroll/salary. Unfortunately, this document doesn't contain your Tax class.
3. Health Insurance:
In Germany, it is necessary to have Health Insurance as per law. Your health is the most important good in your life. Therefore it is vital to have a health insurance. You can choose between public and private health insurance.
Below is the list of Public Health Insurance:
- Techniker Krankenkasse (TK): Family is also insured without any extra cost
- AOK: Family is also insured without any extra cost
Health Insurance company will apply for Social Security Insurance, after you enroll for health insurance. The Social Security number will be required by your Employer for your payroll.
