Process to update the tax class and visiting Finanzamt:
1. Fill the application form with your and your legal partners details including the current Tax class and desired Tax class. Don't forget to click on Page 2, to fill the data on next page. After filling all details, take a printout, bring the printed copy and your original passport when you visit Finanzamt.
2. Visit Finanzamt. There is no need to take any appointment to visit Finanzamt. Just walk-in there, although best suitable time is the morning time between 7:30am - 11:00am.

Token number would be visible on screen, which will indicate the office/Cabin number where you should report.
The executive will take hardly 5mins to do the changes and give you verbal confirmation.
3. Next Step. After updating your tax class at Finanzamt, you need not to inform your employer. Your employer will automatically get the information about the change of your Tax Class on the ELStAM portal, which they use during payroll preparation every month. It could take maximum 1 month to get it updated at your employers side. But don't worry, you can mention it while filling the Tax Returns.
